Reuben Kiplagat Chesire, the former Member of Parliament for the then Eldoret North, just before William Ruto (Ukweli wa Mambo) rose as a man who babysat the reeling agricultural sector to the enviable breadbasket Kenya is reaping from today remains unrivalled.

Chesire was a successful Ayrshire cattle breeder and Africa and even won the recognition of the world when he was elected President of the World Federation of Ayrshire Breed Society.

He became the major source of Kenya seed products and helped many people gain knowledge on agriculture.

 Eldoret North and the North Rift was always on the national radar as the nation looked at it as the breadbasket of the country. He left a gap.

Dr. Elias Melly, who once worked in Chesire's farm as a casual laborer, removal of maize tussles to prevent self pollination (a term known as Biyenje) understands well the impact of agriculture in the society.

His vision to Soy, North Rift and Kenya as whole is to see a booming agricultural sector, where farmers will get the best from their toil, to see agriculture as a business to the people and to ensure that poverty and hunger is a thing of the past.

He is therefore looking forward to representing Soy in the national assembly to champion and fight for legislations that will guard Kenyan maize farmers, fighting for provision of credit facilities to farmers

Subsidization of agricultural inputs

Proper legislations that will guide and empower NCPB as a body that farmers will be proud of. i.e.  removing the conditions and limitations on the quantity of maize supplied by farmers.

Timely buying and paying of farmers produce

He will champion for better prices for maize and wheat produce in the region and the whole country.

Agriculture is our region's business and the next billionaires will be from the agricultural sector.
